Sleep Consulting

Establish healthy sleep habits from day one!

At Southern Doula Services, we strive to improve the quality of life for the whole family as they all adjust to life with a newborn.

The first few weeks of a baby's life can be incredibly challenging for parents. Most newborns don't sleep through the night until 3-4 months old, leading to fatigue and stress for new parents. This is why our overnight postpartum doula care focuses on providing restorative sleep for the entire family.

Having access to trained pediatric sleep consultants will help your baby establish healthy sleep habits from day one.

Sleep is essential to healing & bonding. Your overnight postpartum doula will help you:

  • Understand normal, age-appropriate sleep and wake windows for infants.
  • Discover your baby’s sleepy cues to avoid a fussy, overtired baby.
  • Create the optimal sleep environment.
  • Develop a soothing, predictable bedtime routine along with a flexible schedule.
  • Learn about sleep regressions.
  • Soothe your baby (with no crying) to help them learn the skills they need to sleep independently.

FAQ's about working with Southern Doula Services

As the owner, I went through an extensive training program with the Center for Pediatric Sleep Management.  This training was an in-depth study into the science of sleep, various sleep training techniques, as well as how to support healthy sleep habits at various ages. While the certification does qualify me to deal with sleep plans for all children, I have chosen to remain focused on infant sleep.  All of our doulas have a working knowledge of newborn sleep and access to my expertise as well.

NOTE TO PARENTS:

The majority of our sleep consulting is provided in the overnight doula support packages.  However, if families are interested in creating a more formal sleep training plan with virtual support, this is an option once the baby is 4 months old.  We do NOT use the "cry it out" method; but rather use gentle techniques to encourage self-soothing and independent sleep that are aligned to your parenting style.
